Late 18th Cent Moon Dial Long Case Clock
A lovely original longcase clock by John Hayes of Wrexham, Wales. He is listed as working in Charles Street, Wrexham from1747 to 1822. This example probably dates from around 1800.
The elegant slim case is in oak with mahogany cross banding to the trunk door and base. It has the most glorious colour and original wax polished finish.
The 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell and has a lovely original Wilson dial. Wilson were one of the first makers of painted dials and were known for their high quality. It has a subsidiary seconds dial, date window and an additional dial to the arch displaying the phase of the moon.
The case is in lovely original unrestored condition, has retained its original finish and is a superb colour. It has the usual signs of age and use and has some fine shrinkage cracks to the base
The movement is in good working order, keeping good time and with all the functions working as they should.
The maximum dimensions are:
224cm (80") high
61cm (20") wide
26cm (10") deep
Free local delivery and setup (60mls), national and international delivery arranged at cost
