John O.Nash Ex.1891-97 Lge Watercolour Cliffs
We are pleased to offer for sale this delightful watercolour by the artist JOHN O. NASH, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner. The painting depicts a rocky coastal view, probably in Devon or Cornwall. It is a beautfully coloured, tranquil scene taken from the cliff edge with the rocky coast line beyond and a steam powered sailing boat out to sea. There are a couple of yachts on the horizon and a flock of seagulls wheeling around the cliffs, with a couple of them in the near foreground.
JOHN O. NASH was a Victorian watercolour landscape and coastal painter, who lived at 3, Seymour Terrace, Plymouth, Devon. He exhibited 1 painting of Cornwall at the Royal Academy, 2 paintings at Manchester City Art Gallery and 2 works at the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour. He is listed in The Dictionary of British Artists and the Dictionary of Victorian Painters by Christopher Wood.
His work only comes rarely to the market, as we have only been able to locate 1 auction listing for him. A large watercolour of his was estimated at £450-550 at Keys auction in Norfolk.
The painting has been newly double mounted in two tone to complement and is newly framed in a 2 3/4" (7cm) beaded gilt frame. It is ready to hang.
Medium Watercolours.
