An 18th. Century German Armada Chest with typical strap work and hand riveting. The carrying handles, clasps, dummy lock plate and secret sprung escutcheon all original. The key a later replacement.
The interior having 5 sprung catches and a decorative back plate engraved with half horse half fish mythical creatures. The engraved plate is secured by 5 bolts of which the top right one is missing/broken (possibly due to lid being dropped). See photo.The base in good condition with no holes or damage and still retaining the original lid support. Sizes- Max.Width...28''...71cm. Depth...16.5''...42cm. Height...14''...35.5cm.
