Iconic GERMANDREE powder tin BOOK PIECE
Iconic antique GERMANDREE repousee powder tin wedding gifts c.1920 BOOK PIECE
This is probably the most iconic antique powder tin! Such a beautiful & romantic image of a lady applying powder to her face with a huge puff in her right hand. In her left hand she holds a large powder bowl. Her long elegant fingers, flowing robe & statuesque appearance make for the most alluring scene.
The subject matter & highly detailed repoussé image make this highly collectible. This powder tin dates to 1920. As you would expect with such a famous vanity we provide a lavishly illustrated historical fact sheet as well as collector's information sheets. The lid is excellent as you will see from images 1 - 3, even her reflection in the mirror is exactly as it should be. I do not feel as though my camera has caught the details well enough - from the smooth silver of the dressing table mirror the background is decorated by finely engraved radians which form such a contrast to the repoussé form of the lady & the flowers that adorn the edges of the powder tin lid. The lid is signed 'GERMANDREE PARIS FRANCE'. The lid lifts of smoothly to reveal a very good mirror that gives an excellent accurate reflection - a few minor age spots on the mirror, but nothing that detracts from this piece at all. The bottom of the powder tin is good & the whole item an excellent addition to your collection. Measures 5 cm & weighs 15.8 grams.
