Huge Ray Finch Winchcombe Studio Pottery Cider Jar

1 of 6
A MONUMENTAL RAY FINCH STONEWARE CIDER JAR.
Quite possibly one of the largest pieces undertaken by Ray Finch (1914 - 2012), this magnificent cider jar, of colossal proportions, dates to around the late 1980's / early 1990's.
Hand-thrown on the wheel, the huge body of this vast pot, skilfully drawn upwards, displays pronounced throwing rings and a thick, muscular strap-handle. The whole covered with a satin / low gloss oatmeal type glaze with attractive iron freckling throughout. The base retains it's original fruitwood tap whilst the base of handle is deeply impressed with Ray's personal Winchcombe Pottery (dot) seal mark.
It is likely this pot was specially commissioned as the dimensions are clearly well beyond the realms of the regular standard-ware range produced at the pottery.
The weight comes in at 14.2kg and the overall height is 62 cms.
This imposing and architectural pot would make a first rate addition to any home or studio pottery collection. In particular it would make a splendid feature in a large farmhouse kitchen, an alcove or perhaps an inglenook fireplace.
Presented in excellent condition, this is a super piece on a scale all of its own. Email or call for any further information on this item. We give great attention to each and every item we select and offer for sale, priding ourselves on the accuracy of our descriptions and research. We are very happy to provide complete and exacting condition reports (together with further photographs, where necessary) and encourage buyers to request this information prior to purchase.
Accepted payment methods are via paypal, bank transfer, personal cheque or cash.
Viewing of any item in person, prior to purchase, is always welcomed by appointment.
