Highly decorative 19thc Zanzibar traders chest
A mid 19th century hardwood highly decorative Zanzibar traders chest decorated with brass stud and metalwork.
This type of chest would have been used by traders as they travelled to different areas selling spices and silks etc.
The top is decorated with brass metalwork and brass stud designs with a circle design in each of the two panels leading down to brass stud and metalwork to the edge, the top is hinged with two large brass hinges, the interior having a candle box.
The front panel has a very similar design to the top with brass stud and brass metalwork pierced and stamped with various designs with a highly decorative large brass and pierced central lock plate (not lockable), the punched metalwork being a typical design on antique furniture of this period.
This leads down to three drawers also decorated with the brass studs and metalwork with brass handles.
Each side of the chest has a large carrying handle with the brass metalwork designs continuing from the front, the chest is supported by four original turned feet.
This traders chest is in very good condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home - this piece would suit either a period setting or equally a modern home.
