Gus & Betty McLaren Retro Studio Pottery Comic Cat
A RARE GUS & BETTY McLAREN (AUSTRALIAN) 'COMIC CAT' FIGURINE.
A wonderful, smile-inducing piece of mid-century art pottery from niche Australian potting duo, Gus and Betty McLaren.
Straight from the mid-century modern period (c.1960 - 1970) this relatively early piece would have been made at the McLaren's Yarraridge Pottery.
The figurine is slip-cast in hollow earthenware and is decorated with a series of incised geometric designs. The whole is covered in a pale, freckled green engobe slip glaze.
Fully signed to the base, as shown in the last photo.
15cms high x 25cms across and in perfect condition.
Very original and of the period, with a fun inventiveness all of it's own.
A great addition to a mid-century modern interior or retro ceramics collection. Email or call for any further information on this item. We give great attention to each and every item we select and offer for sale, priding ourselves on the accuracy of our descriptions and research. We are very happy to provide complete and exacting condition reports (together with further photographs, where necessary) and encourage buyers to request this information prior to purchase.
Accepted payment methods are via paypal, bank transfer, personal cheque or cash.
Viewing of any item in person, prior to purchase, is always welcomed by appointment.
