Gorge striking carriage clock by Leroy
A nice example of an 1870s carriage antique clock, with its original leather carrying case. The 8-day movement strikes the hours and the passing of the half hour on a bell, giving a lovely clean sound. The gorge case retains the original mercury gilding still in very good condition.
The white enamel Roman dial has Roman numerals within a minute track, and bears the rubbed signature for LEROY & FILS, 211 REGENT STREET LONDON, 13-15 PALAIS ROYAL PARIS.
Original silvered lever platform to the bimetallic balance.
The antique clock was made for Leroy & Fils by HL. The movement bears the retail inscription Repassée par Leroy & fils Palais Royal 13 & 15 Paris. The movement and leather carrying case are both stamped with Leroy's number 7203. The movement and gilded case are also numbered with HL's clock number 3814, this being part of the numbering system later adopted and continued by Drocourt.
Breguet style steel hands.
Height, with the handle up 6¾ inches (17.5cms)
