Gorge Carriage Clock Grande Sonnierre Calendar
We are pleased to offer this fine and very rare Gorge cased carriage antique clock of French manufacture dating from the 3rd quarter of the 19th Century which has the complications of Grande Sonnerie chiming on every quarter with alarm , day and date.
As can be seen from the images the clock is in excellent condition and is currently being professionally serviced by Overton Clocks of Chesterfield to ensure long term customer satisfaction
The fine quality movement of 8 day duration is unsignedit can be attributed to Alfred & Louis Baveux from St Nicholas d' Aliermont, active circa 1857 - 1889 and was made for the English market retains its original platform lever escapement and has a push button repeat facility on the top of the case. Underneath the base of the clock is the lever to select Grande Sonnierre / or standard hour and half hour strike with the option of turning those options to silent when required.
The circular white porcelain dial is in perfect condition and retains its steel moon steel hands.Underneath are three subsidiary dials for the alarm , day and date which can be set from the rear of the antique clock. These dials have a beautiful silvered engine turned masking.
It really is very uncommon to find such complications on a carriage clock and it would have been very expensive indeed when new.
The clock is 7 inches tall to the very top of the handle and 6 1/8 (handle down) ,4 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches deep making it suitable to be placed anywhere.
The clock is totally genuine and original
I would describe the overall condition as excellent with only slight hairline cracks and a small chip on the subsidiary dials which cannot be seen from a metre away.
