A nice 36 drawer upright letter cabinet from the original Globe Files Company "Globe Ideal Cabinet File" - This piece is made from tiger oak and is a very solid piece of antique furniture. Each and every drawer is stamped on the top edge with it's original patent date of August 15 1887 - May 30 1898 The top of the cabinet has the original label and reads "Globe". All the drawers have a paper note stuck inside with usage instructions from the manufacturer. Each drawer has it's original copper plated brass pull handle with label holder. The internal dimensions of the drawers are H7.5cm x W30cm x D27cm. The Globe Files Company of Cincinnati, Ohio was formed in 1882. The original purpose of the Globe Files Company was to manufacture file cabinets and other office equipment. Two years after the company was formed its first catalogue was released. As business expanded into diverse areas the company's name was changed to the Globe Company. In 1890, the Michigan-based Wernicke Company, also an office supply company, was acquired. The company merged to form Globe Wernicke.
