Gilt Carriage Clock by Duverdrey & Bloquel

1 of 6
Quality French gilt brass carriage antique clock by Duverdrey & Bloquel retailed by Collingwood & Son Ltd c1915. Bevelled glass panels in an ornate gilt case with blind fretwork bands in stylised Art Nouveau design and columnated corners. Unusual and attractively shaped carrying handle. Ivory-coloured dial with blue Arabic numerals and minute ring with hours marked in raised gilt. Signed by the retailers Collingwood & Son Ltd, Paris (rubbed). The clock is an 8-day duration timepiece mechanism with original, jewelled cylinder platform escapement. Supplied with brass double-ended key. The clock measures 11 cm height excluding handle (14.5 cm to top of handle), 7 cm width and 6 cm depth. Excellent time-keeper.
Fully cleaned and serviced but retaining its antique gilt patina. The clock's movement is covered by our 12 month warranty in the UK.
In 1867 Albert Villon established his company in Saint-Nicolas-d'Aiermont, France making complete antique clocks of which ‘pendules de voyage’ formed a large part. Paul Duverdrey joined the firm as director in 1887 and in 1910, following Villon’s death, he was joined by Joseph Bloquel. The firm continued under the name Duverdrey & Bloquel using the lion trademark until c.1939. After 1939 the company used the name and trademark "Bayard".
Collingwood & Sons, watchmakers and jewellers established their first shop in Middlesbrough in 1880. Initially known predominantly as silversmiths, they subsequently opened premises in Hartlepool, Newcastle and Sunderland. The firm converted to a limited liability in 1909 - ceasing trading in the 1960's. Viewing welcomed - please contact us in advance.
Secure payment by debit/credit card is available via our website (see our Dealer's page here on Antiques Atlas for link).
