Georgian Mahogany Large Chest on Chest of Drawers
This chest on chest dates from the first half of the nineteenth century. It is of lovely large proportions, but is faded and worn and would benefit from being re-finished and from some restoration work. The chest has a lower section with three long graduated drawers and an upper section with two small drawers over three long graduated drawers. The drawers retain knob handles and locks, although no key is present and some of the escutcheons are missing. The chest is supported on bracket feet.
Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in usuable condition, but does have some quite heavy wear and would benefit from some restoration work. There is some scuffing, scratching, knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, which is heavy in places, and the piece is overall significantly faded, worse in some areas than others. There are some areas of loss to the wood, the veneers and the cock-beading. There are some areas of restoration and repair - one of the front legs is a replacement and the beading around the top of the lower section has also been replacement at some point. The other front leg is loose and requires repair. Some of the escutcheons are missing.
The approx measurements are as follows:
175cm high, 107cm wide, 54cm deep (to maximums). Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
We can arrange delivery of both smaller items and furniture - please contact us for details and a quote. Customers are also welcome to use their own couriers if preferred.
Payment can be made by PayPal, bank transfer, cheque [UK only], and cash on collection.
