George III Oak Mule Chest Initialled & Dated 1753
This beautiful 18th century country made chest is made from solid oak and has developed a very lovely rich and natural colour.
The handles to the drawers, hinges to the lid and the locking hasp are all original - on most chests of this age the metal fittings have long since broken and been replaced. The inner lock is missing but a wooden bracket has been added many years ago and the hasp slots into this firmly.
The lid is original and unusual - a single plank of cleated oak which is heavy, level and flat and opens and closes smoothly.
The whole chest is pegged jointed with original timbers throughout including the drawer linings and bottom boards.
Dated 1753 and with carved initials F. B
A very handsome, heavy and large chest in good condition with no significant damage or marks. There is a small loss to the top edge of one drawer and there has been some woodworm activity many years ago in the bottom boards and stile feet but not a huge amount and this is long since dead and not significant.
Dimensions are:
55 inches wide, 21.25 inches deep and 29.5 inches high.
For metric please multiply by 2.5 I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
