A larger than usual good quality dial antique clock.

The very substantial, 4 screwed pillar, chain fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement. The backplate stamped with the maker's name "F W ELLIOTT LTD. ENGLAND" also having the serial number 14570 and dated 1941.

Behind a painted steel, 14" diameter dial with a cream background, black outer minute track and Roman hour numerals. The centre being written with "MARLBOROUGH ARMS, SEDGMOOR PLACE, LONDON S.E.5" also, having black 'spade' hands and a substantial, cast brass bezel with a silvered sight ring and flat glass.

Contained in a heavily constructed, dark mahogany case with a broad dial surround. The back box has a side access door and a rounded bottom incorporating a further and curved locking door.

It is believed that this antique clock was commissioned to be hung in the Marlborough Arms pub which was demolished just a few years ago which can be seen pictured on the internet. It is typical of the very substantial antique clocks made by Elliott who were still trading until about 20 years ago.
