French Art Deco Sunburst Wall Clock by Japy Bros
An exceptional French, early Art Deco period, Sunburst Wall Clock by world renown and prestige clockmaker Japy Frères et Cie of Paris.
As was the general French tradition for sunburst antique clock manufacture at the time, the fabulously creative case work is made of Tulipwood with a gilded livery. Mounted in its brass bezel, the original 115mm diameter convex glazed front cover protects a white enamelled dial in superb condition, with black Roman numerals, and its original pair of gilt pierced Louis XXI style hands.
Accessed via its original protective brass dustcover, the clock has a high-quality 8-day French engineered circular movement by Japy Frères, driven by a platform escapement mechanism. The front winding movement carry’s the serial number “40198” with the famous Japy Frères et Cie “Grande Medaille D'honneur” stamp and “Made in France”, stamped into the brass backplate. The clock also comes with its brass winding key.
