Fine 18th Century Edinburgh Mahogany Longcase Clock
Fine original condition 18th century Scottish mahogany cased 8 day longcase clock by JOHN MacPHERSON of EDINBURGH (working 1773 - 1785). Typical 18th century Scottish east coast antique clock with great proportioned case which is in in-touched original condition which includes the feet. The hood with swan neck pediment with original gilded brassware decoration and satinwood fretted panels.
The 8 day movement has been recently overhauled and is in good working order including the strike silent mechanism. The engraved silvered dial has engraved mythical creatures to the top with floral type designs to the corners and has also been recently re-silvered so is in very good condition.
The clock comes with the original winding key, original heavy brass pendulum and both the original cast iron weights. There is also an old (19th century) paper inside describing the history of the maker. John MacPherson was the son of Normand MacPherson who was one of the most famous early Edinburgh clock makers working from 1749 - 1783.
Despite my poor photography the case is a lovely colour with great original patination. All in all a very nice example of 18th century east coast Scottish clock making.
SIZE 7 foot high overall. 18" wide
