Elliotts chiming mahogany Grandmother Clock
A beautifully proportioned early 20th century small longcase clock in a fine mahogany case with contrasting wood inlays.
This antique clock is in the J.J. Elliott and Grimshaw Baxter 1922 catalogue, priced at £88.
The superior quality weight-driven three train movement plays Westminster chimes on the quarters on a set of coiled gongs. The well-engineered four-pillared movement has a dead-beat escapement and maintaining power.
Wood rod pendulum with cylindrical zinc bob.
The 8-inch silvered break-arch dial with subsidiary seconds indication has fine foliate engraved decoration and is signed for the original retailer, Finnegands, Manchester.
The case has a forward sliding hood with pierced wood fretwork side panels over a blind fretwork frieze, shaped inlaid long trunk door, and a base raised on ogee feet.
This is an example of the highest quality clockmaking in the era.
To be overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
