This is a very unusual, rare and superb quality antique Edwardian colonial travelling mahogany sewing compendium, circa 1900, in excellent condition. Used in the British colonies, this table was designed for travelling but also to provide a good quality and high specification mobile sewing worktable. When closed the sewing table can be easily stored in a confined area. The outside of the box features pretty satinwood and ebony string inlay to both sides. The original working lock & key secures the table. To open the worktable there are 2 original brass spring ball locks to the underside of the table that need to press inwards to allow the table to fold open. When the table is sitting horizontally, the brass ball locks are fixed in position to stop the table collapsing inwards. The interior is lined with the original leather including several leather tool holders and miniature boxes. The table also boasts its original work tools, which is very rare to see. The outside of the sewing bag is upholstered in a top quality salmon pink brocade embroidered with a gold thread. The interior of the bag is lined in a pale gold silk material finished off with matching braiding. The table is supported by four pretty folding legs, which are connected by a cross-stretcher for added strength. This is a truly classic design from the late Edwardian period. All in all, this is a very pretty and superb quality-sewing table.
