An early Lancashire longcase clock with fine features. An oak case with walnut crossbanding to the arch top trunk door. Gilded hood column capitals to the arched hood. A brass and silvered dial with ringed winding holes and engraving around the date aperture. A seconds dial and wheat ear engraving to the name disc in the arch. An 8-day duration mechanism with interesting features and engraved letters and numbers to the front plate (see close-up image). Hourly bell striking.

Robert Parkinson of Lancaster is recorded in Loomes 'Clockmakers of Northern England' book as working from 1732-1759. He is noted in the book as making high quality antique clocks and engraving dates and letters to the mechanism. This one is signed '29 which is either 1729 (if working dates are incorrect) or antique clock number '29 he made and also 'Rob L'.
