Doulton Lambeth Silicon Ware Ewer, c.1891-1912
Here we have a very attractive late 19th / early 20th century Ewer or water jug by Doulton Lambeth in their Silicon Ware range. The ewer has a fluted rim and a high arched handle. The body is decorated around the main part of the body with blue and white flowers and a chocolate brown serpentine line. There is a further ring of white leaves around the base of the neck.
Doulton's Silicon Ware range was made at their Lambeth factory in London between around 1880 and 1912. It is basically a hard stoneware fired at very high temperature and then coated in a matt glaze called smear. The decoration was then added by hand by one of Doulton's hugely talented stable of artists. This ewer has the artist mark le on the base.
Condition is good with the exception of a hairline crack where the handle joins the rim of the ewer. However the handle is secure. This condition is reflected in the price. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The ewer stands 19.7cm / 7.7ins high to the top of the handle and is 10.8cm / 4.25ins in diameter across the widest part of the body. It weighs 554g / 19.5oz.
The base of the ewer is stamped Doulton Lambeth Silicon with England underneath. This dates it to the period 1891-1912. There is also the le artist mark, which we have been unable to identify and the product code 9311.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Evri (Hermes) Tracked & Signed Courier.
