An outstandingly beautiful unused mid-century powder compact. This enchanting piece was made in Japan - which is the part of the world famed for its highly skilled artisans who produced the most ornate chokin adornments. This powder compact is in superb condition & comes complete with the original presentation box, unused signed puff, sifter, spacer rings and felt pouch. The lid is adorned with 24 karat gold, rose gold and sterling silver and so this would be an ideal silver or golden wedding anniversary gift for her. The historical fact sheet we include with this purchase documents the elaborate process of creating a chokin collectible using 24 karat gold and sterling silver. Chokin is considered a symbol of good fortune. The lid decoration is a finely crafted oriental scene showing a magnificent peacock and peahen on a sterling silver background. To the left and right of the scene are elaborate oriental blooms adorned with silver, gold and rose gold. There isn't any loss of design and the whole item is sure to delight. All clasps and hinges work perfectly. The lid lifts to reveal an excellent mirror which gives an accurate reflection. This compact can hold loose and solid face powder of many different sizes. The base is a flat surface decorated with a very subtle engraved spiral. This surface would be ideal for engraving.
