Chisel-base Drop Dial Fusee Wall Clock
We are delighted to have for sale a good quality drop dial wall antique clock by Morse of Pinner, dated 1880s.
The oak case has a turned dial surround, affixed to the back box with four wooden pegs. The chisel-shaped base has a locking pendulum access door, and the side has a further door.
The 8-day fusee movement is signed C.E. PRICE and numbered 1038.
The flat painted 12-inch dial is in excellent condition and signed <i>MORSE< PINNER</i>. It has a cast brass bezel with latch behind the dial, and flat glass.
Original matching spade steel hands.
Height 25 inches

Benjamin Samuel Morse was born in about 1854 in Bradenstoke Lyncham, Wiltshire, son of John Morse (1790–1864) and Elizabeth Watts (1814–1882).The 1881 census has him trading as a watchmaker at High Street, Pinner, Middlesex Benjamin S. Morse (27) Watch & Clock Maker, wife Fanny (31), John S. (3), Fanny E. (2) plus Charles E. Haylock (22) assistant watchmaker and Mary Johns (20) general servant.
In the 1891 census the family had moved to 8 Queens Road, Watford, which later passed to his grand-daughter and became Jackson's Jewellers, which is still run by B.S. Morse's decendants to the current day in central Watford.
Here he has bought in a movement from Charles Edwin Price, listed as a clockmaker in Goswell Road, London in 1882. We are proud to be one of the UK’s finest suppliers of high quality Antique Clocks. We are based in Somerset, but also serve the rest of the UK. We are also delighted to have a number of overseas customers.
The workshops have recently relocated to Somerset and we continue to stock a large range of antique clocks and new clocks at very competitive prices.
