Bulle Four-Glass Electromagnetic Clock
In my opinion, this is one of the best-looking Bulle clocks, showing off the movement to all sides whilst also being decorative.
This movement design was patented in 1920, and during the period 1920 to 1952 it is estimated that production was in the region of 300,000 clocks.
The four-glass case has brass bound beveled glass panels to all sides, mounted between dramatically figured black and gold marble plinth and top. The battery is mounted under the base, out of sight.
The 3.25 inch silvered brass dial has Arabic numerals and blued-steel hands. It is signed BULLE CLOCKETTE over the original retailer's name, L Papuchon, Auxerre
The signed movement is numbered 152306.
The pendulum consists of a coil which passes over the curved bar magnet with three poles (North at either end and South in the centre, or vice cersa). As an electrical current is briefly imparted to the coil, it is attracted towards one end of the bar. It then naturally falls back to (and over-runs) the centre, when the impulse is again imparted to attract it to the other end.
Height 25.5cm (10 in).
Width: 17cms (6.75 inches)
Depth: 14 cms (5.5 inches)
