A wonderful 18th.c. longcase clock by Watkin Owen of Llanrwst, probably the most celebrated of all Welsh antique clock makers. c.1780. With a fine eight day, five pillar movement by Owen behind a handsome engraved brass face with separate chapter ring, second hand and working date display. Beautiful, well proportioned Conwy valley oak case of exceptional colour and patina, featuring reeded quarter columns to the sides. Note how the shape of the door is repeated in the base panel. The hood features a broken pediment over distinctive fretwork panel, turned columns and unusual belly shaped sides. Original backboard, original weights. Excellent condition. The works have been cleaned and overhauled and are sold with a 12 month guarentee.
