Brass Dial Longcase with Moonphase, Hadwen Liverpool
A fine 1760s mahogany longcase clock, by Hadwen, Liverpool, the broken arch hood over a trunk with shaped door and well-figured mahogany veneers to the door and base. The trunk has part wood-filled fluted quarter columns to the corners, topped with brass Corinthian capitals. The case is raised on a canted rectangular base with ogee bracket feet.
The 13-inch brass has a moonphase disc in the arch, a subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture to the engraved matted centre, and is signed on the silvered chapter ring Hadwen, Liverpool.
4 pillar 8 day movement, rack striking on a bell.
Height: 92 inches (237cms)
To be overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
Isaac Hadwen II (1723-1767) was son of a Isaac Hadwen, also a clockmaker furthermore, his son Isaac (III) succeeded him in the business. He was a prolific clockmaker of high quality grand Liverpool-styled antique clocks in his short life. His wife continued the business after his death, until his son took over in 1777.
The identical dial by Hadwen is photographed on page 133 of Clockmakers of Northern England by Brian Loomes. We are proud to be one of the UK’s finest suppliers of high quality Antique Clocks.
