A remarkably good mid-century red enamel Stratton 'Convertible' compact in super condition. This lovely clean accessory comes with the original presentation box, as well as all the original fittings - good quality black felt pouch, luxury fabric puff with a silk top (signed 'Stratton MADE IN ENGLAND' in gilt lettering), beautifully hand sewn velour edged sifter, instruction leaflet, inspection docket and padded paper insert. The fittings are pristine. The enamel lid features a bouquet of yellow, pink and orange roses surrounded by deep green foliage. There isn't any loss of enamel / design. The whole item was lacquered during the manufacturing process which means it will never tarnish or need to be cleaned. This delightful vanity will retain its appealing appearance for many decades to come. The lid opens easily to reveal an excellent mirror which gives a clear and accurate reflection. The interior gleams, as does the exterior case. The powder well is coated with white enamel which forms a protective layer. This compact is suitable for all types of loose face powder and also standard sizes of compressed face powder. The base is typical of this maker for its 1950s production - smooth tone gold stars on an engine turned background. Image four shows a dull over head shot without any reflections, as the enamel is highly reflective. A hard to find collectible shipped with its full history in the form of a lavishly illustrated historical fact pack. This vintage compact mirror measures 3 1/8" & weighs 92.4 grams.
