B.C. Pr. Watercolours Butterflies Giltwood Frames

We are delighted to offer for sale this Pair of beautifully executed Victorian Watercolours of Butterflies, by the artist B. C. who has initialled both the paintings at the bottom of the plant stems. One of the paintings represents two Red Admiral Butterflies on two stems of a thistle. The other one of the pair shows a Comma Butterfly feeding on hop flowers, while further up the artist has shown the underside of a Comma with its wings closed.
Please note: These have proved rather difficult to photograph for some reason. The mounts appear beige, but are actually pale green, with a darker green bevel around the inside, and the actuall paintings are slightly stronger in colour than they appear. When we tried one shade darker, they were too dark.
We have been unable to trace the full name of the artist and there are no clues on the back.
The paintings are mounted and are framed in their very attractive 19th Century original wood and composite gilded oval frames. They will be supplied with new brass hangers, new brass picture wire and will be ready to hang.
Image size: 6 5/8 x 4 5/8 inches - 16.85cm x 11.75cm
Frame size: Frame size: 16 x 12 3/8 inches - 40.65cm x 31.45cm
Mateial: Paper,
Condition: Very good. The colours are bright and true and there is no foxing. The mounts are in good condition as are the frames. There is evidence of historic repairs yp bpth frames, but they are now firm and in good condition.
