Art Nouveau Silver Plate Pickle Fork, R Richardson
This is an attractive Art Nouveau Silver Plate Pickle Fork from the late 19th or early 20th century. The pickle fork has a long slender stem, barbs on the outside tines and a sinuous flowers and foliage design at the top of the stem.
The pickle fork was made in Sheffield by Richard Richardson and dates to around 1890 to 1920. Founded by Richard Richardson in Sheffield in 1796, the firm were silversmiths and later also electroplaters. A very successful company that grew steadily through the 19th century and opened a London showroom in Holborn Circus in the 1890s, they remained in business until the start of the Second World War.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no damage, no wear to the silver plating and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pickle fork is 18.5cm / 7.3ins long and weighs 21.1g / 0.74oz.
The marks, on the underside of the stem, are nice and clear to read. They show the EP stamp for silver plate, the letter A for standard quality silver plate, the letter S for Sheffield and the regular RR and back to back RR makers' marks for Richard Richardson.
