Pacific Steam Nav Co Plated Pickle Fork, c.1930s
This is an interesting Early 20th Century Silver Plate Pickle Fork in the classic Old English pattern. The fork is stamped at the top of the stem with the symbol of the Pacific Steam Navigation Company.
The Pacific Steam Navigation Company was founded in London in 1838 and serviced countries on the Pacific coast of South America. They principally carried mail and cargo but in the 1870s they started passenger services between Liverpool and Argentina which continued up until the start of the Second World War.
The pickle fork was made in Sheffield by world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb as part of their Mappin Plate range and dates to around the 1930s, possibly a little earlier.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no significant plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pickle fork is 18.5cm / 7.3ins long and weighs 32.9g / 1.1oz.
The underside of the stem is stamped MAPPIN & WEBB, MAPPIN PLATE and has the Gothic date letter I in a shield which dates the fork to around the late 1920s or 1930s.
Shipping in the UK is £5 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
