Antique Longcase Clock Scholfield Barnsley
An impressive Georgian longcase clock. A mahogany case with choice grain. A swan-neck hood pediment with central brass finial and patterae. Corinthium capped fluted hood columns. Brass capped side columns to the trunk door. An arched brass and silvered dial with date and seonds dials. A well engraved dial centre and a painted scene to the arch signed 'James Scholfield Barnsley'. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell.
James Scholfield is recorded in Loomes 'Clockmakers of Northern England' book as born in 1738 and died 1775. A very similar dial is illustrated in the book
