Antique Iron Bound Oak Silver Chest

Antique Iron Bound Oak Silver Chest.
This substantial chest was made to store & transport the family silver. The chest retains the original green fabric lining & fitted trays ( these can be lifted out )
Original paper labels can be seen on the majority of sections.
The Chest was secured by a lock & key ( key now missing ) & a hasp to hold a padlock, this was probably for security so that only the owner would have both keys, the butler or house keeper would only have one.
In the Victorian era wealthy people would have a smart town house but would move the household to their Country Estate for summer. In addition wealthy military officers would take their silver on campaigns so that the mess would be fully furnished when entertaining.
Blacksmith made carrying handles at either side.
The top is slightly domed.
In excellent untouched condition.
Size height 23", depth 21.25", width 36".
