Antique French small striking wall clock
A rare chance to find a striking antique wall antique clock of delicate small proportions . This French wall clock has a walnut and ebonised case, and dates from the late 1880s.
The eight day movement is spring-driven and strikes the hours and the passing of the half hours on a coiled gong. The backplate of the movement bears the trademark registered to Japy Freres in September 1887. The movement rests on a bracket, and is screwed into the pillars from below, exactly as a Vienna regulator. The gridiron pendulum is set to beat by reference to an white enamel plaque set at the base of the backboard.
The two-piece white enamel dial is in perfect original condition. The clock has blued steel Breguet-style hands.
The case has delicate decorative applied ebonised mouldings to the pediment and base sections, with ebonised canted corners to the door. The door and both sides are fully glazed.
Height: 25 inches (64cms)
Width: 9 inches (23cms)
Depth:5 inches (13cms)
