Antique French Brass Carriage Clock

A charming antique French brass carriage clock of classic design with a beautifully proportioned case and elegant white enamel dial.
The clock is housed in a traditional brass case with bevelled glass panels to all sides allowing the movement to be viewed. The dial features Roman numerals and blued steel hands, creating a refined and timeless appearance.
A folding carrying handle sits neatly on the top of the case above a circular inspection window which allows a view of the escapement. The movement is an eight day mechanism, meaning the clock only requires winding once a week.
Carriage clocks were originally designed in the early 19th century for travelling. Wealthy families would take them when moving between residences or while staying in hotels so that they always had a reliable personal timepiece. Their robust brass cases and protective glass panels were specifically developed to protect the delicate movement during travel.
Because of their elegant design and compact size they later became very popular as decorative mantel or desk clocks within the home.
Condition Report:
Very good antique condition with light age related wear to the brass case consistent with age and use. The glass panels are in good order and the movement appears clean.
Dimensions:
Height: 14.5 cm (5.71 inches)
Width: 8 cm (3.15 inches)
Depth: 6.5 cm (2.56 inches)
Date: 1900
Origin: French
Condition / Servicing Note:
Please note that antique clocks are complex and sensitive mechanical objects. While some clocks may be running at the time of listing we cannot guarantee ongoing performance without a full inspection and testing period by our specialist horologist. Where inspection, testing, or servicing is required this process can take between 2–12 weeks depending on the clock, the work needed, and current workload. This careful approach helps ensure the clock is properly assessed rather than rushed.
Clock Warranty
All clocks purchased from London City Antiques are supplied with a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.
This warranty covers mechanical faults and failures arising from normal use. It does not extend to damage resulting from improper handling, unauthorised tampering, accidental or physical damage, environmental factors (including humidity, temperature fluctuations, or exposure to direct sunlight), or misuse.
Should a clock develop a genuine fault within the warranty period that meets the above conditions, we will, at our discretion and at no cost to you, arrange for the repair or replacement of any defective parts. All remedial work will be carried out by a fully qualified and experienced horologist.
In the unlikely event that a fault cannot be satisfactorily resolved, a full refund will be offered.
Please feel free to contact us should you have any questions about this item.
