A fine Scottish Mahogany Regulator Longcase Clock
A fine 19th century mahogany regulator longcase of small proportions, the drum shaped hood with applied well-carved foliate details over a long glazed trunk door flanked by canted corners on a panelled base.
The single train movement has substantial shouldered plates united by five heavy turned pillars, with maintaining power and high-count pinions to a deadbeat escapement with jewelled pallets. It is wound from the side to allow the bezel to remain locked during winding. The movement incorporates a pulley to allow the brass weight to descend the side of the trunk on its six spoke pulley, to the left of the mercury jar pendulum. The decoratively pierced beat scale is visible through the glazed door.
The 12 inch engraved silvered dial is calibrated on the outer ring for minutes and with subsidiaries for Arabic seconds and Roman hours in the centre, and with fine blued hands
Height 74½ inches (190cms).
