A Fine Norwich Wall Clock by H Brittan

1 of 6
It is a real pleasure to offer for sale this truly beautiful mahogany weight driven wall antique clock by H Brittan of Norwich dating from the last half of the 18th Century. .
Some people would call this clock a Tavern clock and others a Norwich wall clock but whatever you call it, it is simply one of the best of its type that I have ever seen and the originality it has retained is quite remarkable.
If you are looking for a clock of this type I doubt that you will find anything better-certainly for the price!
It is amazing the think that in the last six months I have managed to own two of the best Norwich wall antique clocks I have ever seen in over 30 years experience.
This particular clock was acquired privately from Derbyshire property where it had been for many generations and was handed down as a family heirloom.
Fortunately it had remained in untouched and in the most beautiful original condition which had protected the original French polish.
When the case was carefully cleaned and waxed it gained a colour and finish that is like a newly opened "conker" nut (for the older people out there!!).
The colour is perfect (very difficult to photograph well enough to do the item justice) and the finish sublime.
Please note the boxwood stringing around the edges to the case .
The trunk door has been veneered in the very best quality flame mahogany.
Unusually the bottom of the case is totally original as these invariably get damaged (and often replaced) when the gut line breaks and the weight drops through the bottom of the case.
As regards to originality, this this clock is correct and genuine including the glass and pendulum of course the movement and dial are original to the case.
of particular note is the stunning hand pierced hands, they quality of the workmanship and standard of blueing is superb.
The fine longer duration movement has been fully overhauled by me personally and comes with a full three years guarantee for your peace of mind
