19thc Scottish Landscape Oil Painting Loch Oich
We are pleased to offer for sale this beautifully painted large Scottish Landscape Oil Painting by the artist William McGregor, who has signed the painting in the lower left hand corner.
The painting has been titled on the outer edge of the stretcher 'Sunset Loch Oich'
and bears most of a stock label from the famous dealers Frost and Reed on the back of the stretcher.
The painting depicts a sunset scene over one of the beaches of Loch Oich, which is a freshwater loch being part of the Caldeonian Canal and situated between loch Ness and Loch
ABOUT THE ARTIST
William McGregor was a Scottish artist in the late 19th/early 20th century. We have found very little biographical information about him in our reference books, although there is a William F. MacGregor who lived in Edinburgh and exhibited in the early 1920s, who may be him, although we cannot find any auction listings for him and his name is spelt slightly differently. Another problem we have had is that most of the auction sites confuse William McGregor with William Yorke MacGregor and show his paintings under this name, although it is obvious from the work that they are totally different and William Yorke MacGregor signed W. J. MacGregor.
Many of the paintings by this artist were originally sold by an Art Dealer called Ian MacNicol, who had two galleries in Glasgow, which no longer exist.
The painting is offered in its original 3" cream and gilt swept frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
