19thC G.W.Railway Oak Strong Box
A rare and untouched early 19th Century Great Western Railways Iron bound oak strong box most likely used for the transportation of bullion.
In exceptional original condition, retaining labels for Ross on Wye and Gloucester it would have traveled much further afield during its service. It also retains much red sealing wax which would have held in place paper strips over the lid which would identify if the box had been tampered with en route. The two locks also assuring that two people each with their own key would have been required to open it thus reducing the opportunity for the contents to be pilfered.
It is s super box, uncleaned and un-waxed it is just superb left as is.
Length 19" = 49cm Depth 13.5" = 34cm Height 10.5" = 27cm
