19th Century Chain Fusee Eight-day

A good quality 19th century chain fusee eight-day circular wall timepiece by Dent of London, circa 1860, housed in its original carved oak leaf and acorn case.
The cream-painted dial is signed Dent, 61 Strand, London and features bold Roman numerals with a classic railway minute track and finely shaped blued steel hands. The elegant simplicity of the dial contrasts beautifully with the rich carving of the surrounding case. The substantial circular frame is deeply carved with naturalistic oak leaves and acorns, a symbol of strength and longevity, and retains a warm, mellow patina that enhances its depth and character.
The clock is fitted with a high-quality chain fusee movement, an important feature of mid-19th century English clockmaking, ensuring consistent timekeeping by equalising the power from the mainspring. The eight-day duration movement is robust and well engineered, typical of Dent’s respected London workshop.
Edward John Dent was one of the most celebrated clockmakers of the Victorian period, renowned for precision timepieces including the Great Clock of Westminster.
An impressive and decorative wall clock of strong presence, combining fine craftsmanship, reliable movement, and handsome original carving.
