1940s Dorothy Gray powder compact
Just adorable - a 1942 compact mirror made to resemble a belt buckle.
A delighfully eye-catching case with brushed gold tone buckle in relief on a faux shagreen case.
With the gorgeous Dorothy Gray signature near the thumb catch which was a composite of
her actual signature. The Company had a history of making miniature versions of their
compacts & this is one of them. The mirror gives a good reflection as you will see from photograph two it has a scratch & a few age spots. The mirror bezel has a beautiful deep rich
gilding. The area near the hinge is marked "MADE IN U.S.A." The base is decorated with
an engine turned design of horizontal stripes & signed "DOROTHY GRAY LTD. DISTRIBUTOR
NEW YORK". All clasps & hinges work well. The outer case is superb. The powder well has a quite a few scratches.
This adorable highly collectible vintage compact measures 1 1/2" X 1 1/2".
