#AD055 Oriental Chinese Export inspired plates

We have 2 lovely early antique Morgan, Wood & Co. English mulberry pottery plates made in Burslem, Staffordshire, England in the 1860's. They depict beautiful Chinoserie in the the oriental "Burmah" Willow Pattern in the Imari style, and both are clearly marked "Burmah, M W & Co." on the reverse.

The Morgan, Wood & Co were earthenware pottery manufacturers in Burslem from 1860-1870, and wereformerly known as Barker & Co. They were later known as Wood & Baggaley from 1870-80 with Jacob Baggaley in partnership.

We can find 3 addresses in the English directories as located at:
1860-61 Wedgwood Place Pottery.
1862-63 Liverpool Road
1864-70 Hill Works or Hill Top Works

These potteries often worked in shared factory settings, quite common practice in the Burslem, Staffordshire area in the mid 19th Century.

These two old oriental design plates by Morgan, Wood & Co. were found together in Exeter, Devon, England. They feature a graphic oriental scenes which are underglazed depicting black, red, green and pink flowers, pagodas, and bridges.

There is a decorative border overpainted in a deep maroon red around the rim. The plate is a mixture of an under glaze background image with additional over glaze painting. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. The price is for two. Beautiful and early, just like we love to find them!
