Very good example of a late 17th.c. oak coffer c.1680. At nearly four feet wide it is a little larger than many we see. Could be used as a hall seat with storage or at the end of a bed perhaps. Two plank top with a simple moulded edge to the front and iron hoop hinges. Chest made from five solid oak boards held with iron nails. Unusually the sides retain their original long feet (usually these have been significantly cut down over time) and with simple applied brackets to the front lower edge. With a small hole drilled in the base and the back, otherwise very good original condition. Cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
