12” Fusee Dial Timepiece by Highfield of London.
We present for consideration, this fabulously hand-sculptured English 12” fusee dial timepiece from the mid-Victorian period, by master clockmaker William Highfield of Edgware Road, Paddington, London.
Born 1846 in Kensington, Middlesex, Highfield came from a family dynasty of London watch and clockmakers. Highfield’s grandfather and father were both expert clockmakers, and his older brother, Edward Highfield, was a well-respected London watchmaker. William’s son also followed his father into clockmaking.
• Solid Mahogany roundhead face with hand-carved foliate design, that sits over its boxed cabinet. Offering lovely, aged patination and deep colouring.
• Hinged inspection door located to the side of the box.
• Regulator door located at the bottom of the box.
• Original metal dial, with black Roman numerals and Highfield’s details.
• Retains its original pair of blued spade hands, secured with a pinned collet.
• Original convex glaze mounted in a brass bezel.
• Quality 8-day single fusee movement set between rectangular plates and turned pillars.
• Comes with its 75mm diameter brass pendulum bob and a brass winding key.
