This is of a traditional Zanzibar chest dating from the late 19th century. It is made from a dense hardwood and is decorated with brass studs forming geometric patterns and brass strap decoration to the edges,It has metal carrying handles either side and a pierced brass closing latch. The hinged lid opens to a large storage area below and a small hinged candle box. This chest would be ideal for many things to store or could even have a glass top fitted for a coffee table.
