Waltham Silver Half Hunter Pocket Watch, 1908
A Waltham silver half hunter pocket watch.
The watch has a stem-winding movement, Bond Street grade with Breguet hairspring, which is working nicely. The movement is signed and the serial number 17,425,244 which dates it back to 1908. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch itself measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside all three covers for Birmingham 1907 with a maker’s mark for the Dennison Watch Case Company… Aaron Dennison had very close connections with Waltham. The case has engine turned detail to both the front and back, and the front has blue enamel filled Roman numerals around the small glass lens. There is a small indentation to the chapter ring, and small patches of shallow unevenness but overall the case is in good condition for such an early piece.
The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition. The original glasses ones were often replaced with acrylic if they broke because it is a much more durable material and looks so similar.
The signed dial has a small chip to the right of the centre, and some short hairlines underneath the sub seconds dial.
