Victorian Walnut Kidney Shaped Writing Table
Victorian Walnut Kidney Shaped Writing Table
This is a good quality attractive kidney shaped writing table in walnut. It has a pierced ormolu gallery to stop pens and papers falling off and the top has an inset black rexine writing surface.
There are two drawers to the frieze with original turned knob handles, locks and brass escutcheons and the kneehole has pierced scrolling decoration. It stands on nice turned and carved columns with cabriole legs terminating in scroll feet with ceramic castors.
This table is in very good condition. There is some old veneer loss around the top and around the drawers and a carved acanthus leaf has been lost from the kneehole carving. The black inset top is in fair but used condition.
This table bears the remains of a paper label for 'Messrs. Druce & Co., UPHOLSTERERS, CABINET MAKERS, AND HOUSE AGENTS, 68, 69 & 58 Baker Street, Portman Square'. Mr T C Druce traded in London's Baker Street from about 1835 until his death in 1864.
