Victorian Silver Plate & Crocodile Hip Flask, 1898
Here we have a very fine quality late Victorian Hip Flask with a silver plated lid, a silver plated drinking cup with gilt interior and a crocodile leather wrap around the upper glass body. The front of the cup is engraved with a very distinguished monogram of the letters C, H and S above the date 1898.
The hip flask is made in Sheffield by the highly regarded silversmiths and electroplaters James Dixon & Sons and obviously dates to no later than 1898.
Condition is generally very good with the exception of the glass rim of the inner bottle which has a small chip on one side and a partial crack on the other. This doesn't effect pouring drink into the cup but it might not be ideal for drinking directly from the bottle. The gilding on the inside of the drinking cup is in excellent condition, as is the leather jacket. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The hip flask is 14cm / 5.5ins high and 8.3cm / 3.3ins wide. It weighs in at 336.9g / 11.9oz. It's a good size for fitting into a jacket pocket.
The underside of the cup and the rim of the neck are marked with J.D & S for James Dixon & Sons along with their bugle and banner trademark.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the hip flask.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
