Victorian Scottish Silver Sugar Tongs Glasgow 1882
Here we have a fine quality pair of Victorian Scottish Sterling Silver Sugar Tongs in the ornate Queen's pattern. The tongs have the initials CSR elegantly engraved on the outside of the hinge. It is quite rare to find sugar tongs in the Queen's pattern, so these would be a lovely set to use or make a great addition to a collection.
These well made sugar tongs in a good heavy gauge of silver are by Robert Tennant of Glasgow and date to 1882. Starting in the early 1880s, Robert Tennant was a specialist spoon and flatware maker. Around 1890 the firm became Robert Tennant & Co and continued into the early years of the 20th century.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and only the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after around 140 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The sugar tongs are 13.5cm / 5.3ins long and weigh a substantial 46.0g / 1.6oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the inside of the hinge are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion rampant for Scottish Sterling Silver, the tree, fish and bell assay mark for Glasgow, the date letter L for 1882, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the R.T makers' mark for Robert Tennant.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
