Victorian Oak Double Pedestal Desk
An attractive Victorian golden oak pedestal writing deskwith rounded corners and dating to circa 1880. The moulded rounded rectangular top is inset with a brown cloth writing surface and has three frieze drawers below. Each pedestal has a further three drawers and all nine drawers are fitted their original Gothic inspired cast brass handles and stamped ‘VR patent’ secure lever locks. The handles are stamped ‘C&T’ to the underside and have diamond registration marks. This desk has been polished to the reverse so can be used as a freestanding piece.
This is a lovely rich warm shade of oak (very desirable in the current market) with a striking quarter-sawn grain and good patina. It is in good condition although there are some veneer losses to the drawer edges and the edge of the skiver has some nibbles, however it has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing and with the polished brass handles is very handsome. It comes with a working key.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for more photos.
The overall dimensions at the largest points are approximately
Width 107.5cm (42 1/4in)
Depth 65.5cm (25¾in)
Height 74cm (29 1/8in)
