Victorian Mahogany Compactum Linen Press Wardrobe
This attractive antique linen press dates from c.1860. It is constructed from mostly solid mahogany. It consists of a full-length hanging section on the right-hand side, with a fabric lined interior and a selection of hanging hooks at the top. On the left-hand side behind the double doors are four pull-out slides (there would originally have been five, but one is missing) and two large drawers beneath. The piece has a moulded top cornice and is supported on a plinth base. The piece retains its original wardrobe locks, but please note that no key is present (and there are no handles on the doors).
Please note that although the piece can be unscrewed it is not easy to re-assemble, so we would recommend either that it be moved in one piece or that the purchaser come and see how it breaks down for themselves so that they would be able to re-assemble it.
Condition Overall this handsome piece is in usuable condition, but does have some wear consistent with age and use. There is some wear and scuffing to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. There are a few paint scuffs to the woodwork and some small areas of loss to the veneer. The central door has a heavy dent and scratch to the right-hand side. The woodwork is a little rough to the touch in places. There is some staining to the left-hand door. There is some wood shrinkage cracking in places, and some scuffing to the sides. The mahogany finishing strip to either side of the back panel is cracked with some losses. There is some heavy scuffing inside the doors where the slides and drawers have rubbed. As is mentioned above there are no keys present (and as the doors don't have handles this makes them a little awkward to open). The fabric lined interior of the wardrobe and above the drawers on the other side is a little grubby and has some wear and is starting to lift in places. There is a dirty mark on the fabric above the drawers at one side. There is one slide missing from the left-hand side, and the bottom slide side rail is cracked to the left-hand side. The doors are little stiff to open.
The approx. measurements are as follows
