This is a fine quality antique English Victorian flame mahogany 5ft king size half tester bed, circa 1850, in excellent condition.

Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Victorian flame mahogany 5ft king size half tester bed, circa 1850, in excellent condition. This bed fits a standard UK king size mattress (5ft” wide x 6ft 6” long). The bed incorporates a flame mahogany canopy with curved, fluted cornice. The roof of the canopy has been upholstered in fine quality ruched cotton in a starburst pattern. The rear and sides of the canopy are fitted with brass rails with matching rings, from which the drapes are hung. The drapes display a floral pattern, comprising green, pink blue & brown colours on a cream base, are double skinned and are fitted with standard curtain hooks. The canopy and drapes are raised on two upholstered posts, above the shaped mahogany headboard, which displays a raised central pediment with scroll carvings. The headboard is connected via simple side rails to the footboard. The footboard is raised on column supports, topped with bulbous finials, and features a curved top rail and foliate cartouche. The column supports also feature ornate foliate carved, fielded panel lunettes, which serve as bolt covers. The inner-side of the footboard boasts deep-buttoned fine cotton upholstery, in a cream colour. The bed includes a good quality old replacement removable Vi-spring divan base. The bed rests on its original brass & mug castors the divan base also features castors.
This bed retains the original polish, which is why the bed boasts a dark rich colour and patination it is impossible to re-create this colour if it has been re-polished. This bed would look stunning in either a contemporary or traditional setting. It dismantles for easy transportation and we can provide affordable good quality custom mattresses.

Condition Report:
This bed is in very good condition, which is commensurate with its age. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and bed frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. Minor fading to the polish on the corner of the footboard on one side. The upholstered footboard and roof has been professionally cleaned. The drapes have also been professionally cleaned. The bed retains the original polish, which is why it boasts a stunning colour and patination to the flame mahogany. It is impossible to re-create this colour if it has been re-polished. The bed is solid in joint and is ready to use.
This bed will fit a standard UK king size mattress, which is 5ft wide by 6ft 3” long if the slats are lowered.
Mattresses:
Because these beds are individually unique and do not always conform to modern mattress dimensions, we also supply a range of customised high quality mattresses for these beds starting from £450. Our mattresses are constructed of natural materials (silk, wool & cashmere) and are handmade in the UK. Draping Service:
We offer a separate draping service whereby we can dress the bed with any fabric of choice. This service can consist of the basic fabric being wrapped around the canopy, to hanging curtains or, providing a dressed solid roof with hung curtains. The advertised price does not include drapes. We offer free delivery to mainland England, Wales, and Southern Scotland (anywhere south of Stirling). We do not offer free delivery to locations north of Stirling in Scotland, Northern Ireland, or any British Islands off the mainland for example, the Isle of Man, Isle of White and Channel Islands. Delivery will be made by our specialised antique furniture delivery service, or in some cases we will use a courier service for distant deliveries.
Delivery times are usually 1-4 weeks depending on location we aim to deliver the majority of items within 2 weeks. All items are professionally packaged and fully insured in transit, therefore, we can assure you, your items will be securely protected in transit and arrive safely with you.
Once you have purchased an item, we will contact you be email and/or telephone and provide you with a provisional delivery date, in order for you to confirm if it is suitable for you. A free 14-day “no quibble” returns policy (from the date you receive the item) is available if you are not happy with this item.
